The Great Giveaway to bring free repairs, clothing and furniture to Alperton
You are invited to the community afternoon offering free repairs, clothing, furniture, a school uniform swap and more.
The Great Giveaway will take place on Saturday 10th October at the Grand Union Community Hub in Alperton.
Organised by BANG, with main supporter the Berkeley Group, the event is built around a simple message:
“Take what you need, give what you can.”
Free Repair Café for broken and worn items
A Repair Café will give visitors the opportunity to bring along broken or worn items and have them repaired for free.
The initiative forms part of the event’s wider focus on reducing waste and encouraging people to reuse items rather than throwing them away.
The event’s promotional material highlights the idea of building a community that is “local, kind and sustainable”, with the aim of creating less waste together.
Clothing and furniture giveaway
Visitors will also be able to browse a clothing and furniture giveaway, taking home items they need.
The event operates on a pay-what-you-choose basis, meaning people can take what they need while giving what they can.
Visitors who are clearing out their homes are encouraged to bring unwanted but usable items to give away. Organisers are particularly welcoming donations of school uniforms, books, clothing and furniture.
School uniform swap ahead of the new term
During the afternoon, families can bring outgrown school uniform and swap it for a more suitable size. This helps usable clothing find a new home while reducing the cost of preparing children for the new school term.
Community activities and stalls
Alongside the main activities, the Great Giveaway will feature stalls, activities and community fun throughout the afternoon.
The event is an opportunity for local people to come together, share useful items and support a more sustainable community. Brought to you by BANG, alongside the Grand Union Community Hub and the Grand Union Development Trust. The Berkeley Group acts as the main supporter.
