Due to the increasing temperatures around the UK, schools are facing a challenge that the UK is infamous for; unpredictable weather. Heatwaves around the nation have been getting more and more intense and frequent, causing lessons to be shortened, or in some cases, causing school to be closed early.

Most students would likely find that time away from school a pleasant surprise, but the reality is far more complicated. This significant temperature rise could cause classrooms to become very uncomfortable very quickly, leading to students finding it difficult to concentrate and learn efficiently. With that being said, this doesn’t only affect the students, but the teachers, too. Teachers would find the classrooms too stuffy and unsafe to teach, and therefore both would find the weather to be a large hindrance for their purpose at school, as it causes headaches, stress, dehydration, and tiredness.

Schools may need to find workarounds to combat the unusual weather using better ventilation, or installing cooling systems. Perhaps some older schools need more modern construction that are better adapted for this weather that may slowly become a regularity. Nonetheless, it has become clear that UK schools should start thinking ahead as to what lessons might be like in the Summer in order to better prepare for future scenarios like this one

The impact of climate change has really been made apparent with this situation, and now the question is: What kind of impact might it have on everyday life?
