BANG Young Leader Bridget Owusu visits the Prime Minister’s Office on 10 Downing Street after less than a month at BANG.

Activities and Skill-Building

Earlier this month, Bridget joined BANG’s Founders Lab, a leadership and entrepreneurship programme for young people. Soon after, she joined BANG Young Leaders and was selected for the Queen’s Park & Maida Vale Political Summer School. Lead by Georgia Mould for 4 days, Bridget gained valuable insights into politics in practice.

Participants visited the Westminster City Hall, London City Hall, 10 Downing Street, and the House of Commons. Meanwhile, they developed and presented campaigns. This challenged them to critically think about issues affecting their communities and how to meaningfully and effectively bring change.

Across the four days, Bridget and her peers developed their confidence, public speaking, and teamwork skills. They were encouraged to speak up and challenge themselves, through developing their own campaigns. New friendships were made and new perspectives gained through connecting with alike passionate young people.

Bridget’s Thoughts

Bridget described the summer school as “one of the most inspiring experiences I’ve had.”

For instance, she learnt the value of collaboration and youth voice:

“What made the experience even more memorable was the people I shared it with. Spending the week alongside such a passionate group of young people, each bringing different ideas and perspectives, led to some really interesting discussions.”

The rewarding opportunity left her feeling inspired to continue getting involved and making a positive contribution to her community.

“Throughout the week, I developed my confidence, strengthened my public speaking and teamwork skills, and gained a greater understanding of how politics, campaigning and community engagement come together to create meaningful change.”

“I’m leaving this week with new friendships, new perspectives, greater confidence and memories I’ll never forget. I’m excited to build on everything I’ve learned and continue working towards making a positive difference in my community.”

BANG

Founders Lab is an entrepreneurial programme which supports young people as they build their own businesses. For example, a group successfully set up a t-shirt business, learning problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

BANG Young Leaders is an initiative looking to help young people build leadership skills. Through this, they develop projects and events that appeal to their interests, passions, and community.

BANG stands behind Bridget to ensure she has everything she needs to achieve her goals and aspirations for life and work. They thank Georgia Gould MP, Matt Sudlow and the entire QPMV team for their time, care and effort in organising such a fantastic programme and for believing in young people. Also, they extend their gratitude to the guest speakers for taking the time to share their experiences and inspire the group.

Bridget shares her story and her pledge as a Senior BANG Young Leader in a short film. Watch it on BANG’s social channels and follow along for more from their young leaders.
