Chelsea Fc have just confirmed the signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton Hove Albion for a fee rumoured to be more than 50 million, the 23-year-old who scored 10 goals and 7 assists in all competitions has been signed to a deal lasting until 2032. Joao Pedro will undergo his medical in Brazil then travel to the United States to join the London giants in the quarter finals of the FIFA club world cup against Palmeiras. This departure has made Joao Pedro the 4th most expensive departure in Brighton’s history which speaks volumes of the player Chelsea have just acquired. Chelsea fought off interest from Manchester united to acquire the signature of the Brazilian striker. Joao Pedro is a very versatile premier league proven striker who can operate anywhere across the front line which is ideal for Enzo Mareca’s tactical system. He is also a proven goal threat with him scoring 30 goals in 70 appearances for Brighton. The negotiations for this transfer ramped up during the 28-29th of July prior to this interest was only rumoured and no official bid had been made. Pedro joins this Chelsea squad as their 5th summer Acquisition which further strengthens the relationship between Brighton and Chelsea with this being the 4th senior player Brighton has sold to Chelsea since 2022. Meaning Brighton has made a total of 250 million pounds from Chelsea. Only time will tell if Joao Pedro is ready to make the step up to a big team like Chelsea.
Joao Pedro joined Fluminense’s youth academy aged 10 in 2011 as a midfielder, later he converted to a striker and scored 38 goals in one youth season aged just 17. This earned him a 10-million-pound move to at the time premier league club Watford in 2018, but he would not officially move until January 2020. He made his debut for Fluminense’s Senior team in March 2019 and went on to have a good first season scoring 5 goals in 29 appearances, making a name for himself for his technical ability and link up play along the front line.

In January 2020 Joao Pedro was officially unveiled as a Watford player during the 2018/2019 season while Pedro was at fluminense, Watford was relegated down to the championship. Joao Pedro had a good first season showing his talent in the championship scoring 9 goals in 38 games while being deployed as a midfielder again he helped Watford gain promotion back into the premier league.
