In response to rent-rises, “substandard” temporary accommodation and an insufficient supply of larger family social homes across Brent, the Brent Renters Union (a division of the London Renters Union) has organised a campaign on housing affordability to address mounting concerns.
The union will come together on October 24th to demand more family social homes, the introduction of rent controls within the Renters Rights Bill, and for Quintain – a prominent developer in the Wembley Park area – to better serve its low-income renters.
Brent Renters Union says its members are too frequently evicted from substandard temporary accommodation, reporting that children are becoming sick due to overcrowding, damp and mould. Paired with the rising cost of housing and new but financially inaccessible build-to-rent private property developments, Brent Renters Union is demanding that the government, the council and the developers fulfill their responsibilities to the people of Brent.
Impacted members and constituents, or individuals and organisations willing to support the cause are encouraged to attend an information session on Thursday 3rd Oct at 12PM , at the Brent Renters Union office on 197 Church Road, NW10 9EJ. A Zoom session will also take place which you can find out more about by emailing: brent@londonrentersunion.org.
The demonstration will otherwise take place on October 24th at Wembley Park Station from 12PM.
