The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic in a trade that sends star Anthony Davis to the Mavs. 

Basketball fans woke up to maybe the biggest shock trade in NBA history on Sunday morning, as the Lakers and the Mavs finalised a deal to trade five-time NBA All-Star Luka Doncic, for NBA champion and team anchor Anthony Davis, in a move that also sees Max Christie join Dallas, and the Lakers receive Maxi Kleber and former Laker champion Markieff Morris. Many were left in complete disbelief by the move, with the wide consensus within the league being that Doncic is already a top 3 player in the NBA at only 25 years old, and as the main man at the team that drafted him, it is reported he did not want to leave nor request to leave the Dallas Mavericks.  

ESPN reported that it was also actually the Mavericks who initiated talks with the Lakers GM Rob Pelinka, who before then, did not even picture trading away Anthony Davis, who is widely thought of as the best two-way player in the league at the moment, and just dropped 40 and 20 in his last game as a Laker. This move has not only helped the Lakers to secure their future for the next 10 years at least, but in a season where they are currently the fifth seed in the West, gives them a chance to do something big this year as well, as they have managed to retain their strongest players and a first round draft pick. This will therefore allow them to make further trades to strengthen the team around Lebron and Doncic, the new one-two punch at the biggest team in the league.
