A priceless win for underdogs Dortmund
The German side rose to the occasion in their first Champions League semi-final since 2013.
They advanced to the final that year against Bayern Munich.
Read up on how Bayern Munich did against Real Madrid in the other semi-final.
Füllkrug the difference maker
The only goal on the night came from Germany striker Niclas Füllkrug.
It was a picturesque striker’s goal.
Nico Schlotterback spotted Füllkrug’s well-timed run and played him in with a long ball that sailed over the PSG defense.
Füllkrug needed only two touches to find the back of the net: one to settle the ball from out of the air, and another to drill the ball past Gigi Donnarumma in the PSG net.
No shortage of creativity
Contrasting the 1-0 scoreline were the nine big chances missed on the night: five for Borussia Dortmund and four for PSG.
Both sides managed to create some great scoring opportunities, but the finishing failed to match the creativity.
Jadon Sancho in particular had an outstanding game.
He became the first Englishman ever to complete 11+ take-ons in a single Champions League game.
The last player to complete more in a Champions League semi-final? Lionel Messi in 2008.
Back-to-back scares for Dortmund
The most chaotic moment of the match came in the 51st minute in a mad 10-second sequence.
First, Kylian Mbappé had a beautiful curled effort smack the inside of the far post.
The ball came straight back to him, and it eventually ended up at the feet of Achraf Hakimi, who then struck the near post as well.
It was perhaps a sign that it just wasn’t PSG’s night.
All to play for
PSG should feel good going into the second leg in Paris.
They created chances and were unlucky to score on the night.
Dortmund, emboldened by their first leg win, will be determined to reach their first Champions League final in 11 years.
The football world is in for a treat next week where this year’s finalists will be decided.
