The Round of 16 in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations has lived up to expectations, bringing the excitement, controversy and unexpected early exits notably, Ghana, Tunisia, and Algeria.

There has been an anticipation for new and surprising teams making their mark in the latter stages and Angola for one has stamped their authority into the quarter finals matching their 2008 and 2010 feat with their comfortable victory over Namibia.

Three time winners, The Super Eagles of Nigeria have come out as Angolas worthy match up opponents in the quarters after they beat Cameroon in the last 16 with an Ademola Lookman 2 goal strike.

On Sunday, Guinea clinched a win against Equatorial Guinea with a last-minute goal, while DR Congo went head-to-head with Egypt, ultimately emerging victorious in a penalty shootout.

Ivory Coast, the host country, opted to change their manager despite finishing third in their group. Nonetheless, they qualified for the next stage and went on to eliminate defending champions Senegal through a 5 – 4 penalty shootout win after the game had ended with a 1 – 1.

The outcome of Tuesday’s match between Mali and Burkina Faso will determine their opponent in the upcoming round.

Cape Verde maintained their impressive form on Monday, securing a win over Mauritania with a late penalty. Their next rival will be determined by the outcome of the final game in the round of 16 match between Morocco and South Africa.

The highly anticipated quarterfinals are scheduled to kick off later in the week.
