This week, Nigerian superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid voiced his sentiments on being labelled solely as an Afrobeats artist.
Ayodeji took to Instastories to state that he is not “a f****** Afrobeats artiste” and he is “not Afro anything b****!”. He maintains that although he is African, he “[makes] all sorts of music” and does not want “these labelled just Afrobeats”.Ā

Recently, the artist unveiled his upcoming sixth studio album titled ‘Morayo’, dedicated to his late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, who sadly passed away in August 2023. In his Instagram story posts, Wizkid issued a challenge to his fans, declaring “if u like Pakurumo Wizkid don’t download this new album… in fact delete me from ur playlist and your life!”. Pakurumo refers to an Afrobeats song released by Wizkid in 2011. All in all, the ‘Starboy’ says he is “[an] artiste before anything else… true to [his art]. Not scared to try s***”.
