Wicked: The long-awaited movie musical, out soon in local cinemas

News

November 21, 2024

Wicked is finally hitting the big screen!

It’s been nearly a decade since the plans were originally announced, and now the Tony Award winning Broadway musical turns blockbuster, dropping tomorrow in ODEON Cinemas.

A major talking point of the movie is its star-studded cast, which includes Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jeff Goldbum and Michelle Yeoh.

Due to Wicked being such a packed musical, the movie will be split into two parts, with part one dropping this year and part two set to be released on 21st November, 2025.

Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel first originated the roles of Glinda and Elphaba in 2003, where the musical debuted on Broadway.

The story of the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the West goes way back, before the story of Dorothy dropping into the Wonderful Land of Oz came to be.

The musical tells a story about two witches, both different in popularity and looks, starting off as roommates and rivals.

However, they go on to gain an unbreakable bond before pursuing separate paths that led to their famous monikers.

The fantasy story also incorporates origin stories for other familiar characters of OZ.

The official trailer arrived on May 15th, showcasing Glinda and Elphaba’s first meeting, as well as showing a snippet of famous star Ariana singing ‘Popular’ for the first time.

We look forward to hearing other songs on the tracklist of Wicked, including ‘Defying Gravity’, ‘For Good’, and ‘No One Mourns the Wicked’.

Go check it out in your nearest ODEON Cinema, starting tomorrow.
