The annual UK Black Pride event is opening its doors this Sunday 10th August in Stratford, Queen Elizabeth Park from 12pm till 9pm. The large scale event is “Europe’s largest celebration for LGBTQ+ people of African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and Caribbean heritage”, which pulls in thousands of people each year.

Lady Phyll, the brains behind the event, started out by inviting black lesbians to Southend-On-Sea in 2005, to celebrate their authentic selves and create a safe space for the marginalised community. The following year, it evolved into Black Pride, and has been running each year since.

Headlining the main stage is Grammy-Nominated, Durand Bernarr! Previous headliners include Ms Banks & MNEK.

This event is a celebration of the intersection of race and sexuality, forming solidarity amongst the hardships. It features several stages with musicians, panels, speakers, performers, and so much more, representing the black and brown LGBTQ+ community.

We at The Beat London 103.6FM can’t wait to see you there!
