Tems gears up towards her first studio album release
Tems released a single last week, the first since she announced the upcoming release of her debut studio album in May.
The single, titled “Love Me JeJe”, pays further homage to her native Nigeria.
In it, she draws clear inspiration from and in part interpolates fellow Nigerian’s Seyi Sodimu’s 1999 track with the same name.
In an interview with Apple Music 1, Tems explained that she wanted to pay tribute to the song, as both she and her mother love it.
The inspiration behind the track came about in the most organic of ways.
Her friend freestyled in the studio, and spontaneously came up with a reference to the Sodimu track.
Tems loved the idea, and decided to follow that concept in creating the actual track.
She released a visualiser to accompany the song.
In it, she’s seen vibing with her friends much like how the song came to be in the first place.
A consistent rollout
The title of and inspiration behind this first single makes it clear that Nigeria is the inspiration behind her upcoming debut album, Born in the Wild.
The trailer that she released earlier this month serves as a visual celebration of Lagos.
This single, which pays clear homage to a Nigerian classic, will resonate with both the older generation that is familiar with Seyi Sodimu and the younger generation of Tems fans.

With May around the corner, more details on Born in the Wild can be expected in the coming days.
There is not yet a track list or a release date.
Fans will be waiting impatiently to learn more about one of the most highly-anticipated albums in recent years.
