Superstar Tems leaving her mark

Tems has announced her debut studio album, Born in the Wild, which is set to come out in May.

The Nigerian Grammy-Award winning artist and producer released a visually-mesmerising album trailer to mark the announcement.

The trailer captures Tems’ birthplace of Lagos in its authentic beauty, which tastefully alludes to the album’s title.

She has always been proud of her heritage, and it’s inspiring to see her paying direct homage for the biggest moment of her career up until this point.

Tems has been on a steady rise

The 28-year-old, who began releasing music since 2018, currently has two EPs out.

Her first, For Broken Ears, came out in 2020, shortly before her big breakthrough came when she featured on Wizkid’s track “Essence”.

The next year, she got a feature on Drake’s song, “Fountains”.

12 days later, she released her second EP, If Orange Was a Place.

The continued rise

Tems has been on an upward trajectory for some time now.

In 2022, she featured alongside Drake on Future’s song “Wait for U”, which debuted at number one on the Hot 100.

It made her the first African female artist to both top the chart and debut on it.

The song also won Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 2023 Grammys, making her the first African female artist to win the award.

It’s impossible not to mention her feature on Beyonce’s Renaissance album, and her involvement on the Black Panter: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

It’s Tems time

Tems is finally ready to bless the world with her debut studio album.

Her rise to the top of the music industry less than six years after she released her first song is nothing short of inspirational.

She has taken her time in putting together her first proper body of work, and that gives her fans all the more reason to trust that she will deliver.

After all, that is all she’s ever done so far.
