Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s new track “Good (Don’t Die)” is no longer on Spotify. This incident adds to a series of clearance issues surrounding Kanye and Ty’s joint album. According to Donna Summer’s estate, Kanye sought permission for her 1977 hit, “I Feel Love”, but was denied.
The estate claims that “He was denied [to use the song]…he changed the words, had someone re sing it or used AI but it’s I Feel Love…copyright infringement!!!”.
In spite of the backlash, “Vultures Volume 1” is reportedly set to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, due to 140,000 album-equivalent unit sales in its first week. This marks Ty Dolla $ign’s first number one album, and Kanye’s eleventh.
The reason for Spotify’s removal remains unclear, and it is uncertain if other streaming services will follow suit. The album has faced delays, including challenges with obtaining clearance for a Nicki Minaj feature and a sample from The Backstreet Boys.
Further to this, musician and media personality Ozzy Osbourne has also expressed disapproval towards Kanye. After allegations formed against Ye regarding antisemitism, Osbourne also denied Kanye the use of a Black Sabbath sample.
The removal occurred four days after the track’s release, although it remains accessible on other platforms like Apple Music and YouTube. As of now, there has been no immediate response from Kanye’s representatives to these allegations.
