Bajan Princess of Pop, Rihanna has released a new song for the Smurfs soundtrack, ‘Friend of Mine’. Written by Fenty and 6 other collaborators, the stomping bass heavy track has Rih soaring over the track singing “Ooh, I think the word here is “dĂ©jĂ -vu”, just met you tonight, but you feel like a friend of mine”.
The song isn’t uncharted territory for the soon-to-be mother of 3, as she has recorded film soundtracks to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, ‘Lift Me Up’ written by Nigerian artist Tems. The song sounds like a cross of Rih’s electronic sounds and Take Care with frequent collaborator, Drake.
Rihanna features in the film playing ‘Smurfette’, alongside James Corden, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer and more notable names. The animated live action comedy film is to be released on July 18th 2025.
When Papa Smurf is mysteriously taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world to save him. With the help of new friends, the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe.
