On Monday 15th June, we went to watch music veteran Beyoncé headline her latest offering, Cowboy Carter Tour at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Beyoncé’s music has evolved so much that she surprises you every time with her choice of genre but with her signature stamp. Cowboy Carter was no exception to that. This isn’t a country album, this is a Beyoncé album.
Travelling to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, there was a sea cowboy hats. Everyone dressed in their finest get up. This was a statement. A fashion show. London’s celebration of Country.
At 7:40pm, she appeared on the massive stage shaped like a star. The mother of 3 graced the expensive platform in an all white get up, singing the opening song ‘American Requiiem’. She then sung her cover of The Beatles ‘Blackbird’ followed by ‘The Star Spangled Banner’, ‘Freedom’ and ‘YA YA/Why Don’t You Love Me’ until an interlude.
What amazed me was how all the songs on the album came to life on stage. I personally didn’t think it would translate but boy was I wrong. She went that one step further and included the opening segment to the Renaissance tour – performing the sequence to ‘I’m That Girl’, ‘Cozy’, and ‘Alien Superstar’.
The setlist also included her timeless hits ‘Crazy In Love’, ‘Single Ladies’, ‘Love on Top’, ‘Irreplaceable’, and ‘If I Were A Boy’. What a nostalgic moment!
It was beautiful watching her daughter, Blue Ivy, join the routines as a dance in her own right. Catwalking to ‘Diva’ before busting out into the iconic routine her mother did in her music video back in 2006. Her youngest, Rumi also joined the pair on stage in a sweet moment for ‘Protector’.
All in all, Beyoncé keeps getting better and better. Vocals, staging, choreography, outfits were ALL on point.
The album that was released on March 29th 2024 made waves across the industry when Knowles-Carter made a pivot into Country music. The album went on to win ‘Best Country Album’ and ‘Album of the Year’ at the Grammys, marking her first time winning in both those categories. This also includes ‘Best Duo’ with ‘II Most Wanted’ alongside Miley Cyrus.
You know I had a good time when I lost my voice by the end of it! The Beat are ready for Act iii!
