Everyone was planning a lovely get away from Heathrow one of the biggest airports in London was hit by a nearby fire caused by a power outage on Thursday, 20th March. It affected not only the arrivals but also all the departures. With over 220,000 people traveling from Heathrow and 1,357 flights being cancelled or diverted to the nearest airport or a different country at the very last minute.

Not only that but Heathrow could have now lost out on a significant amount of money because of the unsuspected closure.

Sarah Taaffe- Maguire business and economics reporter stated that “  It would contribute £4.7bn to the economy, its forecast, meaning a daily contribution of £12.88m, a figure that could be lost by the airport’s shutdown.”

It also affected many airlines that were supposed to  land in Heathrow. Airlines such as Tap Portugal, British Airways, Air France, United Airlines, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic and Jet Blue

The chairman Lord Paul Deighton stated  “Closing the airport yesterday had significant impacts for our passengers, our customers, our colleagues and the country”. ( said to a Sky news presenter)

However many hours and a couple of days Heathrow is now back to somewhat normal on the 22nd March flights started to leave from the airport with of course certain delays in different areas.

For example Virgin Atlantic and British Airways both went ahead plus some more well known airlines.
