MOBO AWARD’S JAMAL EDWARDS WITH ‘PAVING THE WAY AWARD’

It’s officially MOBO week! Here at The Beat we’ve been counting down the days until their first live show since COVID-19. The MOBO’S announced the brilliant over the weekend that they’re giving an award to the late and beloved Jamal Edwards,  The MOBO’s press release said this: ‘One of the industry’s most loved figures, the late Jamal Edwards MBE will be honoured with MOBO’s Paving The Way award, supported by BBC 1Xtra. The Award will be accompanied by a special tribute performance by three-time MOBO Award-winner Emeli Sandé. The Paving The Way award is dedicated to celebrating and honouring trailblazers who create a path of excellence for future generations of talent to follow, spanning music, entertainment, culture and sports. Jamal will always be known as someone who selflessly helped others in every aspect of his life and career’. 

Jamal Edwards MBE was a British music entrepreneur, DJ and founder of the online R&B/Hip-Hop platform SB.TV, who single handily changed the British music industry as we know it – he was the catalyst. Unfortunately, Edwards passed away earlier this year, and his passing really took a toll on the British music and creative scene. Despite his sudden passing Edwards is continued to be honoured by those he made an impact on and the British music scene. His legendary career continues! Firstly, In October of 2022, Edwards was awarded with the first ever ‘Legacy’ award from the Guap Gala awards. Edward extensive career bought up those of, Ed Sheeran, Dave, JHus, Jessie J, Young Adz and Emeli Sandé.

It is lovely to see that his amazing efforts have not gone unnoticed especially since his passing too. We continue to honour and remember his excellence. We at The Beat also do continue to honour and showcase the outstanding effort form Jamal Edwards. 

As Jamal once tweeted, “We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.”
