MOBO Awards 2024: Celebrating Excellence in Black Music and Culture

The 26th annual MOBO Awards kicked off yesterday in Sheffield, celebrating the biggest names in Black music and culture. With captivating performances by Ghetts, Soul II Soul, Sugababes, Byron Messia, and Cristale, alongside the dynamic hosting duo; Presenter Indiyah Polack and Comedian Babatúndé Aléshé, the audience were in for an unforgettable treat.

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill was honored with the esteemed ‘Paving the Way Award’, while Jazzie B of Soul II Soul received the revered ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’. This year, the MOBO Awards introduced two prestigious new accolades: the ‘MOBO Impact Award’ and the ‘MOBO Pioneer Award’. Sugababes claimed the ‘Impact Award’, marking a significant milestone since the announcement of their reunion two years ago, while Ghetts graciously accepted the ‘Pioneer Award’. He expressed profound gratitude for the recognition, stating that he felt “truly blessed” by the honour.  

Potter Payper, Little Simz, Central Cee, Raye, and Stormzy also emerged as notable winners at this year’s award. Potter Payper’s “Real Back in Style” secured ‘Album of the Year’, while Little Simz clinched ‘Best Hip Hop Act’. Central Cee emerged victorious as the ‘Best Male Act’, while Raye claimed the title of ‘Best Female Act’, and Stormzy was honored with ‘Best Video’ for “Mel Made Me Do It”.

The 2024 MOBO Awards showcased the vibrant diversity and immense talent within Black music and culture, leaving attendees and viewers eagerly anticipating what the next year will bring.
