The middle Ball brother and former high-school basketball star’s song, ‘Tweaker’, has taken TikTok by storm.
LiAngelo Ball has reportedly inked a $13 million record deal with Def Jam records, as reported by Shams Charania on Tuesday. The middle Ball brother released his track, ‘Tweaker’, via WorldStarHipHop on 3rd January, amassing over 1 million views on YouTube in a day. The song went viral on TikTok in the lead up to its official release after Gelo played a snippet during a stream with YouTuber N3on, with many fans noting the nostalgic early 2000’s sound of the track.
The song now sits on 8.2 million views in the 10 days since its release, and the viral hit has led to LiAngelo signing a multi-million-dollar record deal with Def Jam and its parent company UMG. According to Pitchfork, Gelo will retain ownership of his music and label, Born2Ball, which he will receive as part of his deal, with $8 million of the $13 million guaranteed. As the second of the three Ball brothers, many expected LiAngelo to be as successful as his brothers who are both NBA All-Stars, however, has been unable to make it onto an NBA roster as of yet. It seems that Gelo may have found his own lane at last.
