Kyle Walker has been named England’s vice-captain for Euro 2024.

The Manchester City star replaces Jordan Henderson, who was left out of the squad for the tournament.

Walker, who has previously captained England in the absence of full-time skipper Harry Kane, was recently identified as part of Gareth Southgate’s unofficial leadership group by Mail Sport.

We can now confirm that the defender will serve as Kane’s deputy here in Germany.

In October, Walker captained the national team for the first time, wearing the armband during a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia while Kane was on the bench.

At 34, Walker is the oldest member of Southgate’s 26-man squad, having made his international debut during a 1-0 victory over Spain in November 2011 under Fabio Capello.

Following Ilkay Gundogan’s departure from Manchester City last summer, the former Spurs star was named part of a five-man leadership group in Pep Guardiola’s team.

Kevin De Bruyne initially took the captain’s armband for their Premier League opener, but when a long-term injury sidelined the Belgian for much of the campaign, Walker assumed leadership and guided them to a historic fourth consecutive league title last month.
