The rapper received an astonishing 7 GRAMMY nominations after a year that saw him claim his crown amongst the ‘Big Three’. Kendrick Lamar became the rapper with the most nominations for the 2025 GRAMMYs having been nominated an astounding seven times following a strong musical year. Kendrick started the year off strong when he featured on the now GRAMMY nominated “Like That”, featuring Future and produced by Metro Boomin. The record was an instant hit and went viral almost immediately due to overt lines that took shots at Drake and J Cole, with the West-Coast rapper proclaiming that there is no ‘Big Three’, just a “big me.”
The track kicked off arguably the most famous rap beef in history. The first response was J Coles now retracted “7-Minute Drill”, which turned out to be a false start in the conflict. Drake then responded to the “Like That” record with “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle”, the latter a mostly AI track that uses vocals from Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac. Kendrick finally responded, and in the midst, made history and revealed a chink in Drake’s seemingly impenetrable armour. After dropping almost back-to-back tracks, “Euphoria”, and “6:16 in LA”, Kendrick unanimously defeated Drake in the back-and-forth when he dropped “Meet the Grahams”, and arguably the song of the year “Not Like Us”, the latter which has now been nominated for 5 GRAMMYs.
The line, “Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now”, from Drake’s “Family Matters” diss, may now become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Internet seems to think so.
