Ending a six-year musical hiatus, Justin Timberlake marks his return with the release of his new song ‘Selfish’. Despite mixed reviews, the new track, secured its acclaim as 77% of fans voted it as their favourite new release of the week in a recent Billboard poll on Friday (Jan 26th).
Unveiling a more intimate side, JT expressed that “you just don’t hear that from men often, that they would express an emotion that makes them vulnerable. And then, growing up the way I grew up, you’re taught not to do that”, when discussing the track. Further to this, long-time friend and music collaborator, Justin Timberland, has stated that Timberlake’s forthcoming album ‘Everything I Thought It Was’ will deliver “what you’d expect from us: not overthought, the lyrics are not so deep, it’s bob-your-head, dance-to-it music.”
The “Princess of Pop” and former girlfriend of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, has expressed praise for the song. This acknowledgment follows fans’ attempts to overshadow her ex-beau’s latest release by propelling one of her past songs, ‘Selfish’ (released in 2011), back into the charts. On Monday, Spears shared a video of Justin performing his latest track on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on her Instagram along with a message. She wrote “I wanna apologise for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry. I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song Selfish… It is soo good.”
Anticipation is high for the release of JT’s upcoming album, scheduled to launch on March 15th, 2024.
