GRM Daily’s Rated Awards 2022: The Highlights

A star studded show filled with entertainment and moments that would be remembered forever. Back again, for the 7th year the GRM Daily Rated awards celebrates the best of UK rap and grime music. The infamous Rated Awards was held on the 22nd of October at Magazine London and broadcasted on E4 on Tuesday 25th October. The show was hosted by Big Zuu and Julie Adenuga and featured guest presenters Munya Chawawa, Tiffany Calver, Adeola Patronne, Mariam Musa, Nella Rose, Snoochie Shy and Zeze Millz. Encapsulating the essence of the UK Rap & Grime scene this award show was not to miss! The show consists of awards across eleven different categories, recognising some of the scene’s most popular figures and their contribution to UK music between June 1, 2021 and July, 2022. Ms Banks, Ivorian Doll ands Dreya Mac who teamed up for a remix of ‘Baddie’ featuring Felix 1st

Knucks & SL delivered a strong performance of ‘Nice and Good’

ArrDee had a mash p performance of ‘Flowers’ (Say My Name) and a exclusive performance of the chart topping Body remix with Tion Wayne and Russ Millions. The backdrop was one that resembled the renowned GRM Daily Duppy for the freestyle and the lyrics were written in the same font

All whilst Nella Rose and America Foster kept us all entertained backstage capturing all the gossip and reactions for TV and online.

Awards Highlights:

Superstar Dave won four awards on the night, including track of the year and video of the year with his smash hit single collaboration with Stormy ‘Clash’. When accepting the award for track of the year, Dave revealed the story behind it joined by Stormy; ‘Back in 2019, I’d just finished my tour, my friend Cal who produced this song had just bought Jordan 1s and Jordan 4s so I freestyle ‘Clash’. I played Stormy the song in 2020 and the year after that I got his verse! 4 years of a journey to bring you guys this song’.

Dave also took home Male Artist of the Year and won prestigious Album of The Year for We Are All Alone In This Together; ‘Big up GRM, big up everyone who made this year possible. It’s been a big year for a lot of musicians and everyone’s done a lot to really push the scene forward’

It’s been a fantastic year for Little Simz! She added Female Artist of the Year to her shelf after recently accepting the Mercury Prize. In her acceptance speech she said ‘Thank You so much GRM, a special shout out to Posty as well, he’s had a special journey. I remember when he first started doing this at Essex Road – I’m from Essex Road! It’s amazing to see how far it’s come and far it’s progressed.’

Best Breakthrough went to A1 & J1

The show was closed with the legacy award. The late Jamal Edwards, founder of the online music platform SB.TV was awarded this year’s legacy award, this was presented iconically by Posty, CEO of GRM daily and Rashid Kasirye, founder of Link up TV. This was a touching moment as the award was accepted by Jamal’s mother Brenda and sister Tanisha. This award also included a special video which was created by the team at SBTV to celebrate his life, legacy and accolades throughout his career as the audience and viewers watched.
