The artist has claimed that Universal Music Group have violated the RICO act in their practices.
Superstar rapper Drake has recently filed a legal petition against his own record label, Universal Music Group. In the legal filing on Monday 25th November, the artist’s legal team representing his company, Frozen Moments LLC, claimed that UMG were partaking in an illegal scheme that involved payola and fake internet bots to inflate the ‘Not Like Us’ streaming numbers.
This recent filing comes as a huge shock to the rap world. Many believe that Drake should keep the feud on records, with some going as far as to claim that this latest legal action is evidence as to why the artist’s place in hip-hop culture is continually called into question. The lawsuit represents a huge rift between Drake and UMG, who he has been signed to his entire career, and was rumoured to have signed a $500 million dollar deal with in 2022. In a statement sent to Billboard, UMG have denied the claims, stating “The suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue.”
