Making her the third woman in history to win ‘Best Rap Album at the Grammys

On February 2nd, breakout Hip-Hop star ‘Doechii’ won her first Grammy for best rap album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.

Her standout mixtape ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ was released on 30th August 2024 through ‘Top Dawg Entertainment’ and ‘Capitol Records’. The mixtape was a huge success featuring production form a variety of producers.

Known as the ‘Swamp Princess’, Doechii shared an emotional speech as she stood up on stage, honouring the acceptance of this award, alongside past female winners, Lauryn Hill and Cardi B.

She stated “I put my heart and soul into this mixtape, I went through so much and I dedicated myself to sobriety and God told me I would be rewarded and he would show me just how good it can get.”

She continued her speech by motivating and inspiring any young black women watching the ceremony to not be discouraged.

She continued to state  “I know there is some black girl out there and I want to tell you that you can do it. Anything is possible. Don’t let anybody project any stereotypes onto you.. You are exactly who you need to be to be where you are, and I am a testimony.”

If this speech did not send shivers across everyone watching Sunday night, then her electric medley performance shortly after would have sent everyone spiralling. She wanted to bring Broadway, dance, theater and art all onto the stage and she did just THAT!

Here at The Beat we look forward to what 2025 has more in store for the Tampa born rapper and songwriter, starting off with her new single she released on the Grammys nights itself, titled ‘Nosebleeds’ which was dedicated to thanking her supporters and addressing the speculation surrounding her nominations.
