Almost a year after the viral Oscar awards when Will Smith boldly slapped Chris Rock on stage for ‘disrespectfully talking’ about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett at the Oscars in March of 2022, Chris Rock has returned to the stage and is back telling jokes.Naturally, in his first show, we would expect him to address the events of the slap, but not only did he address the altercation, he continue to diss Will Smith and his wife. The comedy show was streamed lived on Netflix with millions of viewers eagerly tuning in to finally get his side of his story at last.
Chris Rock’s show opening was “Y’all know what happened, me getting slapped my Suge Smith” a word play in the name, between Will Smith’s name and the alleged Biggie murderer Sure Knight, almost implying that Will is dangerous and as violent as the speculated murderer. It is clear from the insult laced jokes that Chris Rock is in his ‘revenge era’ he is sending for Will, and has no remorse. Rock also went on to say that Will is a ‘b****’, and Will’s wife is a ‘b****’ and that other people included (Charalmange da God) also thinks that Will is a ‘b****’. Chris cooked up this show to reveal of his point of a view sure did not miss out any insult or diss.
After the iconic Oscars slap, Will has been banned from the awards show for a decade as a consequence, Chris’ response to that was that he did not fight back because he said his parents bought him unto not act out infant of white people when you are a minority.
Twitter had a lot to say about Chris’ live show, his performance has created a divide in opinions.
What do you guys think about Chris’ return? Is it too little to late, did he miss his window to speak on this? Or is just in time.
