Brit Awards 2024: Raye achieves a significant milestone

News

January 25, 2024

Raye achieves a significant milestone with an impressive seven nominations, solidifying her position as the most nominated British female in the history of the Brit Awards

London-born solo artist RAYE has set a new record, by attaining a whopping seven nominations at the 2024 Brit Awards; a first for any female artist in a single year. This contrast to last year’s categories has been positively received amongst the public; a substantial change from the uproar caused by the male-dominated categories in previous years.

Following RAYE’s departure from Polydor in 2021, she decided to pursue a career as an independent artist, releasing her highly anticipated album ‘My 21st Century Blues’ in 2023. This album would later become her most lauded and commercially successful album to date.

The singer’s nominations include: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Pop Act –Public Vote, R&B Act – Public Vote, and two nominations for Song of the Year. She is up against the likes of Dua Lipa, Little Simz, Dave, Central Cee, J Hus, and Mahalia.

RAYE’s recent nominations is a remarkable career transformation, after previously voicing her frustrations with her former record label on X (formerly known as twitter) with reference to “being slept on”, and not being “allowed to put out one album”, despite having “been on a 4 album record deal since 2014”.

Following receiving notification of the nominations, RAYE shared that she “feels good, super excited, [and] really proud of being here today.”
