Roger Steffens, an 82-year-old renowned reggae collector, Bob Marley expert, and radio host, has sold his extensive archive of vinyl records and other memorabilia.

This collection, often regarded as the largest and most comprehensive gathering of Bob Marley artifacts globally, was purchased by Josef Bogdanovich for an undisclosed “multi-million-dollar” sum.

The archive had previously been valued at up to $3 million.

Bogdanovich described the purchase as both a significant honor and a major responsibility for Jamaican culture.

“It’s a monumental task, but the impact is so profound,” he told Variety.

Steffens, who has known Bogdanovich for over forty years, remarked, “Of all those who have sought to acquire this collection over the past 37 years, he is the most capable of preserving, promoting, and returning this history to Jamaica without political influence.”

Among the collection’s most valuable items is a poster from Bob Marley’s July 21, 1978, performance at Berkeley’s Greek Theater, signed by Marley and the Wailers.

This poster was insured for $75,000 when it was loaned to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for an exhibition, possibly making it the most valuable individual piece in the collection.

Another notable item is a T-shirt from Marley’s renowned 1978 “One Love” concert in Jamaica, where he famously united the island’s rival politicians, Michael Manley and Edward Seaga.
