Sunday saw Arsenal dismantle league leaders Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in a comprehensive 3-1 victory that has cemented the Gunners as a serious contender for the Premier League title with 15 games remaining in the league campaign.

Mikel Arteta executed a managerial masterclass to secure the three points as the Gunners suffocated Jurgen Klopp’s side on both ends of the pitch.

Arsenal’s expected goals (xG) of 3.52 was the most that Liverpool has ever conceded in the Premier League era since such records began in 2010/11, and Liverpool’s xG of 0.41 was their lowest of the 23/24 season.

However, Arsenal’s statement victory was not the main talking point in the Sky Sports studio following the full-time whistle.

Jamie Carragher, who spent the entirety of his seventeen-year playing career at Liverpool, voiced his strong disapproval of Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard’s behaviour in celebrating the win.

After applauding the thousands of jubilant fans still soaking in the massive result, Ødegaard grabbed club photographer Stuart MacFarlane’s camera and forced him to pose for some photographs in celebrating the win.

Carragher insisted that Ødegaard leave the pitch, clearly unhappy with the midfielder’s mode of celebration, and Gary Neville labelled Arsenal as immature for their reaction to the result.

Ian Wright responded to the reaction of Carragher and Neville on his social media channels, reminding people of the importance of joy in football and claiming that the reaction to Arsenal’s success is met with far more negativity than any other club.

An away trip to West Ham awaits the Gunners on Sunday and a win is needed to keep their momentum alive.
