An opening week to forget for Co-Op Live
Co-Op Live, the new music venue in Manchester which has a capacity of 23,500, is off to a rough start.
The £385 million venue had to postpone their launch last week due to a series of ongoing technical issues.
Various acts have already been postponed for various problems with the venue.
Those include Peter Kay, The Black Keys, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Olivia Rodrigo.
The controversy surrounding these postponements has already led to the resignation of Gary Roden, the boss of the new venue.
Fans learn of postponement after doors open
American rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was scheduled to perform at the new venue last night.
Shockingly though, A Boogie fans were already inside the venue when the show was cancelled due to a “venue-related technical issues”.
It was then announced that Olivia Rodrigo’s shows, originally scheduled for tomorrow and Saturday, were to be postponed as well.
A spokesperson for the venue later revealed that part of an air conditioning unit fell from the gantry during soundcheck.
A reputation to recover
A strong reputation is crucial for the long-term success of a music venue.
Given the amount of money that went into the construction of Co-Op Live, it’s here to stay.
It will take a long time though before music fans can fully trust the venue to keep their word about the shows they book.
