The First of Many: NBA Awards 2017 Recap

Nicki Minaj, being a no show at the BET Awards, made an appearance at the first NBA Awards. Performing ‘No Frauds’, ‘Swish Swish’ ft Katy Perry who wasn’t in attendance and 2 Chain ‘Realize’ from his new album ‘Pretty Girls Like Rap’. Nicki missed out on winning her 8th BET award for best female artist to Terror Squad opponent Remy Ma, subliminal directing her performance to her rival.

Keeping it all in the Young Money family Drake hosted the star studded event. Proving that his Degrassi acting days aren’t behind him. Will Ferrell also made an appearance in a ‘Top Super-Secret NBA Training Facility’, teaching basketball players how to handshake, making the pair a comedic duo team. Drake and Will Ferrell kept their audience entertained with humorous hand gestures such as ‘The Jenga’, ‘The Gossip Queen’ and their more controversial handshake ‘The Black Dad’.

He kept the crowd entertained by using his charm and acting skills to win over his audience, using Steph and Ayesha Curry as his muse for a ‘Get Out’ spoof.

Maybe one day we will see Drake putting his acting skills to better use. For now we are all happy with the ‘Gyalchester’ rapper/singer.

The honouree of the night MVP Russell Westbrook gave an emotional speech, thanking everyone in his camp with a long list, before a few of his team mates joined him on stage. Teary eyed he then proceeded to thank his parents, brother and wife.

Being one of the first awards of its kind, it was a comedic and emotional night for everyone.

Let’s see what next year brings.
